Marcel Weber
Marcel Weber was born on 20 August 1963 in the city of Fribourg (FR, Switzerland). He attended compulsory school in the bilingual Zähringen town.
1979 -1983 he successfully completed the training as a dental technician. At the end of 1987, he founded his own dental laboratory, which he ran until 2019.
During a vacation in summer 2008 Marcel Weber saw a hyper realistic (photo realistic) painting of an Italian artist in a gallery. This picture struck him like lightning. His passion for painting was born and has never let go of him since.
He began to deal intensively with painting. He set up his studio. First paintings came into being. In the beginning he only used photographs as templates. Through the contact with the painter Albert Sauteur a new dimension of painting was opened to him: painting directly from a model without a photo template and by painting the composition with both eyes. The transformation of scenes viewed ‘binocularly’ into the pictorial plane is a great challenge and holds many surprises and difficulties. The reward in the end is deeper and more intense images that seem less flat.
Marcel Weber was also inspired by other artists like Gus Heinze, Jeffrey Smart, Alex Colville, Christopher Pratt, and Henk Helmantel.
In 2020 he sold his dental laboratory to devote himself entirely to painting.
